Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now with an all new picture, deleted chapters of Phoenix Rising that provide backstory, and a short story by Ryk E. Spoor! A new breakout fantasy epic filled with strong world building, engaging characters, and wondrous adventure. Kyri: a highborn young woman whose life is shattered by the murder of her kin. But even as Kyri flees her beloved land Evanwyl, she knows that she is her family's only hope for justice, and Evanwyl's only chance to escape a growing shadow of corruption and destruction. Now Kyri must venture across Zarathan, a world on the brink of a long foretold Chaos War. It is a struggle that may usher in a long age of darkness— that is, if Kyri and her companions do not succeed in holding back the tide of evil that is rising. Those companions include valiant swordsman Tobimar Silverun, Prince of Skysand, exiled on the turn of a card and a prophecy, who is now seeking his people's lost homeland; and Poplock Duckweed, an unlikely hero whose diminutive size is as much a weapon as it is a weakness. Kyri's quest is as simple as it is profound: find a legendary ancient weaponsmith, take up the sword and armor of a new order of warrior defenders, and bring the power of justice and vengeance to the evil and corruption that has darkened her native land. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

Download PDF PHOENIX RISING, PIONEERING CHINESE WOMEN OF MALAYSIA Book by Ho Tak Ming Full eBook and published by Perak Academy. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THROUGH the centuries, Chinese women have had to struggle under a load of injustices—denial of education, ineligibility to sit the civil service examinations and hold official posts, female infanticide, selling of daughters, concubinage, foot binding—just to name a few. They had largely remained silent because they did not have a voice. As China descended to abject poverty in the nineteenth century, the lot of Chinese women became even worse. When Chinese women came to Malaysia (Malaya then) largely from the nineteenth century onwards, the circumstances became different. Under British law, they were the equal of men, but social conditions took some time to evolve. For instance, daughters were left out of inheritance until quite recently, sons received preferential treatment in education and polygamy was declared illegal only in the 1930s. But Chinese women became successful entrepreneurs through their own ability, and, through education, many of them became distinguished professionals. Phoenix Rising, Pioneering Chinese Women of Malaysia is the story of Chinese women who have immigrated to this country and forged independent lives different from their lives in China. They have shown courage, resilience and determination in improving their lives. Like the phoenix, the mythological bird that symbolises the Chinese woman, they are set to soar to greater heights given equal opportunities and just social conditions.

Download PDF The Utopia Reader, Second Edition Book by Gregory Claeys Full eBook and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utopianism is defined as the various ways of imagining, creating, or analyzing the ways and means of creating an ideal or alternative society. Prominent writers and scholars across history have long explored how or why to envision different ways of life. The Utopia Reader compiles primary texts from a variety of authors and movements in the history of theorizing utopias. The volume includes texts from classical Greek literature, the Old Testament, and Plato’s Republic, to Sir Thomas More’s Utopia, to George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and beyond. By balancing well-known and obscure examples, the text provides a comprehensive and definitive collection of the various ways Utopias have been conceived throughout history and how Utopian ideals have served as criticisms of existing sociocultural conditions. This new edition includes many historically well-known works, little known but influential texts, and contemporary writings, providing an even more expansive coverage of the varieties of approaches and responses to the concept of utopia in the past, present, and even the future. In particular, the volume now includes feminist writings and work by authors of color, and contends with current concerns, such as the exploration of the ecological ideals of Utopia. Furthermore, Claeys and Sargent highlight twenty-first century trends and popular narrative explorations of Utopias through the genres of young adult dystopias, survivalist dystopias, and non-print utopias. Covering a range of original theories of utopianism and revealing the nuances and concerns of writers across history as they attempt to envision different, ideal societies, The Utopia Reader is an essential resource for anyone who envisions a better future.

Download PDF Ethical Issues in Aviation Book by Elizabeth Hoppe Full eBook and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied ethics has been gaining wide attention in a variety of curriculums, and there is growing awareness of the need for ethical training in general. Well-publicized ethical problems such as the Challenger disaster, the Ford Pinto case and the collapse of corporations such as Enron have highlighted the need to rethink the role of ethics in the workplace. The concept of applied ethics originated in medicine with a groundbreaking book published in 1979. Business ethics books began to appear in the 1980s, with engineering ethics following in the 1990s. This volume now opens up a new area of applied ethics, comprehensively addressing the ethical issues confronting the civil aviation industry. Aviation is unique in two major ways: firstly it has a long history of government regulations, and secondly its primary focus is the safety of its passengers and crew. For decades commercial aviation was viewed in the same manner as public utilities, and thus it was highly regulated by the government. Since the Deregulation Act of 1978, aviation has been viewed as any other business while other experts continue to believe that the sudden switch to deregulation has caused problems, especially since many airlines were unprepared for the change. Ethical Issues in Aviation focuses on current concerns and trends, to reflect the changes that have occurred in this deregulated era. The book provides the reader with an overview of the major themes in civil aviation ethics. It begins with theoretical frameworks, followed by sections on the business side of aviation, employee responsibility, diversity in aviation, ground issues regarding airports, air traffic control and security, as well as health and the environment. The contributors to the volume include both academics doing research in the field as well as professionals who provide accounts of the ethical situations that arise in the workplace.

Download PDF THE YOGA THERAPY HANDBOOK - BOOK ONE, REVISED 2ND EDITION Book by ROGER MARTIN DAVIS Full eBook and published by AKU PRESS INTERNATIONAL. This book was released on 2015-03-27 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long awaited revised 2nd edition of The Yoga Therapy Handbook has arrived! It is greatly expanded, colorful and much more descriptive than the original edition from 2007. The new version is contained in four distinct volumes (Book 1-4) that are being sold separately with an "a-la-cart" styling so readers can "pick and choose" from what works best for them as either a novice/beginner or advanced Yoga therapist. Perhaps, what is most intriguing, though, about this 2nd edition is that in the interim period the author made a dramatic and controversial decision to embrace Al-Islam. Accordingly, this edition wrestles with those quintessential elements that make a "comparative religion" flow to this text quite different than any other Yoga therapy book on the market today. The author also revives his review of the multicultural expressions as well in both Yoga Science and meditation practices. The creative artistic flair of the illustrator (Sue Jeong Ka) is still woven into the fabric of this text. This Fine Artist who is originally from South Korea (ROK) now lives and works in the USA (New York City. Surely, her talents have expanded since the first edition and we hope with the "print edition" to follow she add some new illustrations to enliven this text.
Download PDF Air Transport in the 21st Century Book by John F. O'Connell Full eBook and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airlines are buffeted by fluctuating political and economic landscapes, ever-changing competition, technology developments, globalization, increasing deregulation and evolving customer requirements. As a consequence all sectors of the air transport industry are in a constant state of flux. The principle aim of this book is to review current trends in the airline industry and its related suppliers, thereby providing an insight into the forces that are changing its dynamics. The factors that are reshaping the structure of the industry are examined with a view to identifying the key issues whose impact will be critical in the future. The book features two very distinct sections. The first contains short contributions from industry executives at CEO/VP level from airlines, aircraft/engine manufacturers, safety and navigational provider organisations, who have set out their take of where the airline industry is heading. This commercial input sets the scene for the book and provides the bridge to the second section, which is composed of 18 chapters written by distinguished academic authors. Each chapter presents a valuable insight into a specific area of the air transport industry, including: airlines, airports, cargo, deregulation, the environment, navigation, strategy, information technology, security and tourism. The shared objective of the authors is to describe and explain the core competencies that are determining the current shape of the industry and to examine the forces that will change its direction going forward. The book is written in a management style and will appeal to all levels of personnel who work for airlines across the world. It is also written for airport authorities, aerospace manufacturers, regulatory and government transportation agencies, researchers and students of aviation management, transport studies, tourism and the wider air transport industry.

Download PDF "Harry – yer a wizard" Book by Marion Gymnich Full eBook and published by Tectum Wissenschaftsverlag. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series (1997–2007) has turned into a global phenomenon and her Potterverse is still expanding. The contributions in this volume provide a range of inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to various dimensions of this multifacetted universe. The introductory article focuses on different forms of world building in the novels, the translations, the film series and the fandom. Part I examines various potential sources for Rowling's series in folklore, the Arthurian legend and Gothic literature. Further articles focus on parallels between the "Harry Potter" series and Celtic Druidism, the impact Victorian notions of gender roles have had on the representation of the Gaunt family, the reception of (medieval and Early Modern) history in the series and the influence of Christian concepts on the world view expressed in the novels. Part II focuses on a range of prominent political and social themes in the series, including conspiracy, persecution and terror, racism as well as the role of economic, social and cultural capital. Other articles explore the concept of a Magical Criminal Law and its consequences as well as the significance of secrets and forbidden places. The articles in Part III go beyond the novels by taking the stage play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", the movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", Pottermore and fan fiction into account. Main topics in this part include trauma theory/PTSD, queerbaiting, a 'post'-colonial analysis of the representation of Native Americans in Rowling's "History of Magic in North America" and the depiction of violence, incest and rape in fan fictions. The concluding article highlights the diversification of the Potterverse and analyses strategies informing its ongoing expansion.
